"Impact of Emotional Needs on Intention to Stay\r\nand the Mediating Role of Perceived\r\nOrganizational Support.an Empirical Study of\r\nGen Y Employees’ in the Banking Sector in\r\nMalaysia"^^ . "It is anticipated that over the next 10 years, the\r\nbanking sector would require a workforce of about 200,000. Gen\r\nY employees makes up about 40% of the current workforce in\r\nMalaysia. This number is expected to increase to 75% within a\r\nrelatively short span of time. The present study examined the\r\ninfluence of emotional needs of Gen Y employees towards\r\nintention to stay and the mediating role of perceived\r\norganizational support. This was a quantitative research that\r\nused a survey method. Data was collected from a sample of 470\r\nGen Y employees in the banking sector in Malaysia. The findings\r\nrevealed that emotional needs had a significant impact on\r\nintention to stay. Perceived organizational support was found to\r\nmediate the relationship between the two. The findings have\r\nsignificantly contributed to the advancement of knowledge in the\r\nemotional needs and intention to stay of Gen Y employees in the\r\nbanking sector. The significant and positive impact of emotional\r\nneeds and perceived organizational support suggests the\r\nimportance of these factors in retention of Gen Y employees. The\r\npaper's primary contribution is that it provides an understanding\r\nthat emotional needs and the mediating role of perceived\r\norganizational support have an impact on improving the\r\nintention to stay of Gen Y employees in the banking sector in\r\nMalaysia. From the practical implications perspective,\r\norganizations need to implement policies and procedures to help\r\nlessen employees quitting intentions. The results of this study\r\nsuggest that organizations can implement policies covering the\r\nemployee emotional needs and employees’ perception that their\r\nwork and contributions are valued. With current trends of\r\nglobalizations and diversity, the finding of this study can be\r\nbeneficial to improve retention of Gen Y employees in other\r\ncountries. (Abstract by authors)\r\n"^^ .
