"This study examined the impact of social needs of\r\nGeneration Y employees towards their intention to stay longer in\r\norganizations. The mediating role of perceived organizational\r\nsupport was also examined. In this quantitative research, data\r\nwas collected using a survey method. The study population were\r\nGeneration Y employees in the banking sector in Malaysia.\r\nRandom sampling was used to collect data from 470 respondents.\r\nSelf-administered questionnaires were delivered by hand.\r\nStructural equation modelling was used to test the relationships.\r\nThe findings revealed that Gen Y employees’ social needs were\r\npositively related to their intention to stay. It was found that\r\nperceived organizational support mediated the relationship\r\nbetween the two constructs. The findings presented new insights\r\ninto how Gen Y employees social needs can contribute to\r\nimproving their intention to stay in the banking sector. Given the\r\npaucity of research in the context of the role of social needs and\r\nperceived organizational support, this study provides an\r\nunderstanding to organizations on the influence of social needs\r\nand perceived organizational support in improving retention of\r\nGen-Y employees.
